West Sussex Area Group 16mm

The Two Hills Light Railway (THLR) and represents a heritage line in an industrial museum sited in an abandoned cement works. Any similarity to Beeding Cement Works and the Amberley Museum is purely intentional!

The heart of the railway collection is an assortment of Irish and IOM 3ft gauge locos and stock and for this reason the ‘mainline’ is 45mm gauge representing 3 feet in 15mm scale. In addition there is a small 2ft (32mm) gauge line in a disused quarry, which has been rewilded, including the clean up of a slurry pond. There is also a short demonstration length of standard gauge and an even shorter piece of 18mm gauge in a quarry loading facility.

The mainline runs from the terminus at Mill Hill station, calling at Chalk Pit and finally the railway headquarters at Slonk Hill before returning to the terminus. The layout is an out and back, but with the option of continuous running. The small quarry line is an oval with two sidings.

Motive power is a mix of Roundhouse and Accucraft live steam and a good selection of battery powered locos and railcars. Coaching stock includes a rake of scratch built Schull & Skibbereen 4 wheel coaches, a Tralee and Dingle bogie coach and a Manx Northern Railway 6 wheel coach. Cattle wagons feature prominently amongst the goods wagons.
